Amateur players will have the possibility to win one million Australian dollars when they face elite players - headed by world number one the Spanish champion - in a single-point showdown leading up to January's Australian Open

Tournament officials of the Melbourne major have announced the Seven-Figure Quick-Fire Competition, which will pair everyday competitors against elite athletes in a knockout tournament at the tournament grounds

The Unique Tournament Functions

Players will play 'the decision-making game' to determine who gets to serve or return, and the competitor securing the point will advance to the next round

The winner of the event will earn £490,000

By comparison, players who made it to the semi-finals of the primary tournaments in the 2025 Australian Open won over a million Australian dollars

The American Grand Slam organized a restructured, separate mixed doubles tournament in late summer which prompted top singles players to compete, with the champions receiving a million-dollar prize

The year's first major held its inaugural One Point Slam this year, but the cash prize was a smaller amount and it received minimal attention

The Russian player was the only top-10 player competing, and his progress came to an end when he put the sole serving chance granted failing to clear the net in his last eight match

Event Details

Officials have not said exactly how the event will function, but it is projected to follow a comparable structure to the most recent iteration

The professionals will be allowed to serve once and the non-professionals twice - as is the norm in conventional tennis

While it is uncertain how the draw will work, there will be several competitive phases and the location will be the main stadium rather than the secondary venue

The final stages will occur in a nighttime schedule instead of 1pm local time

Entry Information

Local players - or overseas competitors who have enrolled with Tennis Australia - can participate in 'single-point competition' events at their neighborhood facilities

The winners of the local competitions will then go into a selection process, with an everyday competitor from every state and territory picked to take part in the 'championship round' in a night session on the specified date

There will also be a preliminary competition in December which non-professionals, developing professionals, famous personalities and athletic celebrities can compete in

It starts on early January and the two winners will go into Wednesday's 'grand finale' with the other eight amateurs and elite competitors

"Whether you're an amateur or a pro, the final champion will receive the prize. Registrations will begin shortly at facilities throughout the nation"

Competition planners stated there were "more big names to be unveiled imminently", while the official website said "well-known figures" would be taking part
