Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
