Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:
- Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking different ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
