Wilfried Nancy insisted he did not fear losing his job, claiming, “We are extremely close to things turning around,” even after moving dangerously close to the exit with a heavy loss to their arch-rivals.

Another Capitulation Results in Old Firm Loss

The Hoops had led their oldest rivals at the interval but a disastrous second period enabled the Gers to pull level on points with the current Scottish Premiership champions. The French coach, who was brought in in December, has now overseen six defeats in eight matches.

“There is unity with the board,” stated Nancy.

Questioned about whether he was concerned, the 48-year-old replied: “I don’t think about it. I think about discovering solutions to help my team to excel on the fine details.

Protest On Display

Hundreds of supporters made their feelings clear – towards the board and manager – by gathering at Parkhead. The hierarchy would be most likely to return to the former boss, who enjoyed a successful caretaker period before Nancy was hired, should a change be made.

“Wins and losses [that leads to pressure]. That is the truth for the moment. But in stating this is the reality, it doesn’t mean that I am a defeatist guy. Not at all. The message is the turnaround is near, imminently close to reverse our form.”

“Really, Really Close”

Nancy continues to cling to the fact his team play well for a half at a time. For instance, if not for poor finishing they might have been more than 1-0 up. “I saw enough other than the fact that we didn't take our chances,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I have also to be balanced.

“The performance we had at certain moments was of top quality. This is the reality. I could not speak so positively if it was untrue. Therefore, regarding outcomes, I noted it's a repeating pattern. For that reason I believe we are nearly there to a shift in fortunes. Currently: the fine margins.”

“We produced many, many good things that we did, once more. The issue now it’s about performing for 90 minutes. My outlook would be different if it was not the case. This is why I am convinced we will manage to get back on track.”

Röhl’s Cautious Outlook

Rangers manager played down talk of a championship push even after what appeared to be a huge result. “We take it game by game, then we can gradually build momentum,” he said. “The faith in the squad is outstanding.”
