Former Doctor Charged with Sexual Assault Charges Against 38 Individuals in His Care
Legal authorities report that a former doctor stands accused of performing sexual assaults against 38 victims who were under his care.
Details of the Serious Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 to 2021.
A deputy chief prosecutor said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges come after what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
Prosecutors said the 45 charges comprise:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- 17 counts of penetrative assault.
- 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempted penetrative assault.
