Jurgen Klopp states rejoining to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign which brought continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he told the podcast host: “I said I will never coach another team on English soil. Which implies in case it's my former club...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I could make the decision later on, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games meaning regularly great spirits in the building. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments which secured the championship last term. The team has suffered a string of losses in every contest post heavy investment, but he rubbished the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding the player himself, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. Not a single person might employ it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Coping with it on a personal level is difficult. Unbearable.”
