President Trump Invites Loved Ones of Injured Guard Personnel to White House
President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Invitation
The president stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed journalists. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Public Response
Community members assembled over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in the capital.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the press. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to help others.”
Service details for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event caused the government to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had bravery,” he addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
