The Renowned Musician Urges Public Help to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The effort seeks to send support to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The song was recorded after a major charity concert held in September. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of performers featured on Lullaby includes a selection of acclaimed names from the scene. All took part in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a significant sum for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a group of producers and composers. The song features a combination of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the campaign have emphasized that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“There is no a specific target,” a spokesperson said. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of property reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a few million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is first of all making this cause better known and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
