The Showrunner Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit series coming to an end—and the next chapter officially in the works—the writers' room recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the constant speculation and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Will the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
